!CACHAO VIVE! A Concert of Cuban Melodies
Apr 26, 2025
Starting: 7:00 PM
An evening of music and cultural reflection will highlight the legacy of Cuban bassist and composer Israel López “Cachao” through a performance blending tradition and tribute. ¡Cachao Vive! A Concert of Cuban Melodies takes place on Saturday, April 26 at Sanctuary of the Arts in Coral Gables.
The program features the Yelsy Heredia Trio—led by two-time Latin Grammy nominee Yelsy Heredia on bass, with Pacho Chibás on piano and Tany Allende on percussion—performing a set that celebrates the rhythms and melodic traditions of Cuban music. The event also includes a short documentary presentation by producer Joe Cardona on the history of the San Carlos Institute in Key West, marking the centennial of the building known as La Casa Cuba.
The concert offers a blend of live performance and historical storytelling, honoring both Cachao’s influence and the broader heritage of the Cuban diaspora.
