Casandra: La Casa de Bernarda Alba, El Monólogo
Mar 19, 2025
Starting: 8:00 PM
A powerful exploration of authority, tradition and feminine identity unfolds through an innovative solo adaptation of Federico García Lorca's masterwork. The Casandra IX International Women's Festival presents La Casa de Bernarda Alba, El Monólogo on Wednesday, March 19 at the Sandrell Rivers Theater.
Adapted and directed by Raquel Santiago Rodriguez, who also performs this solo interpretation, the production distills Lorca's intense drama about a domineering mother who imposes strict mourning restrictions on her five daughters in rural Spain. Through this monologue format, the classic story of repression, desire and rebellion against societal constraints takes on new dramatic dimensions.
Presented by L'ARCANO Theater Corporation, this adaptation of Lorca's final play offers a unique perspective on his themes of social oppression and the struggle for personal freedom. The original work, completed just before the playwright's death in 1936, remains one of theater's most potent examinations of power, tradition and the human cost of rigid social conventions.
This performance continues the festival's tradition of showcasing innovative interpretations of classic works while celebrating women's voices in theater arts.
