Contemporary Currents: To Be Dwellers With This Land
May 01, 2025 - Jul 20, 2025
From: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Explore a world of embroidered imagery and layered storytelling in the latest installment of the Deering Estate’s Contemporary Currents series. To Be Dwellers With This Land by Pangea Kali Virga will be on view from May 1 through July 20, presented in the Garden Room—a quiet wooden alcove within the historic Richmond Cottage.
Part of the Deering Estate’s annual program that integrates contemporary art with its collections and historic spaces, this exhibition features new work by Virga, who was an Artist-in-Residence at the estate from 2023 to 2024. Her printed silk images, intricately embroidered and thoughtfully composed, reflect a deep engagement with place, memory, and the environment. The Contemporary Currents series highlights work by current and former Artists-in-Residence, with exhibitions hosted on the second floor of the Richmond Cottage.
Visitors can view the exhibition during regular Deering Estate hours. A free opening reception with the artist will be held on Saturday, May 10, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Garden Room.
Pangea Kali Virga is known for creating immersive, fiber-based works that merge visual storytelling with a commitment to sustainability.
