Join the Barnes Foundation and Miami MoCAAD, on Tuesday, June 4 at Ampersand Studios, for an insightful conversation with Miami-born artist Mark Thomas Gibson. During the talk, Gibson will share insights into his creative process and also discuss his participation in Miami MoCAAD's exhibition This Life: Black Life in the Time of Now, an exploration of contemporary Black life using augmented and virtual reality. The event will also be live streamed by the Barnes Foundation.
Key Speakers
Mark Thomas Gibson is an acclaimed visual artist whose work utilizes various media to offer sharp, witty and visually captivating critiques of contemporary American society. He is a graduate of New World School of the Arts High School in Miami and currently teaches painting at Temple University. Gibson's recent solo exhibitions include Sikkema Jenkins & Co. (2023) and the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (2023).
James Claiborne is the Deputy Director for Community Engagement at the Barnes Foundation. Claiborne is responsible for developing and leading public programs and community engagement activities. He co-curated the Barnes exhibition William Edmondson: A Monumental Vision and the installation Returning to Before by artist Brendan Fernandes in response to Edmondson’s work.
