Discover the evolution of public safety in one of South Florida's most distinctive communities through an exploration of firefighting history. The Coral Gables Fire Department at 100: A Century of Service exhibition will be on display from April 18 to September 21 at the Coral Gables Museum.
This exhibition holds special significance due to its location in a building originally designed as the Coral Gables Fire Station and Police Department in 1939. Featuring a newly acquired collection of historical artifacts, documents and photographs, the display chronicles the development of this essential institution from its earliest days to its current operations and technology.
Visitors will gain insight into the progression of firefighting techniques and equipment while learning about the department's response to significant challenges throughout its history. The exhibition pays tribute to the dedication of Coral Gables firefighters, highlighting not only their daily service to the local community but also their participation in national emergency response efforts, including the Oklahoma City Bombing and the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Presented in collaboration with the Coral Gables Fire Department, this centennial commemoration provides context for understanding the vital role of first responders in maintaining public safety and their ongoing commitment to protecting the community.
