Dennis Scholl: Untitled (Dodecagon Drawing Grid)
Through Dec 12, 2024
Dennis Scholl’s Untitled (Dodecagon Drawing Grid), 2024 transforms the Hotel Croydon into a reflection on time and memory through meticulous artistry. Part of the City of Miami Beach’s No Vacancy exhibition, this installation features up to 100 unique dodecagon drawings arranged in a grid. The 12-sided figure serves as a central motif, evoking associations with the hours of a clock, the months of a year and the signs of the zodiac—symbols of the passage of time.
Scholl, a Miami Beach-based visual artist and filmmaker, explores the intersection of memory, artifact and conceptual drawing. His work reimagines archival materials, blending personal experience with broader cultural histories. In addition to his studio practice, Scholl is an accomplished documentarian, with films that have been featured at festivals worldwide, including Sundance and SXSW, and on streaming platforms like Netflix.
On view from November 14 to December 12, Untitled (Dodecagon Drawing Grid) is one of 12 site-specific installations in No Vacancy, Miami Beach. Visitors are invited to engage with this unique artwork while exploring the cultural vibrancy of South Beach’s iconic hotels.
