The Miami International Piano Festival welcomes Bulgarian pianist Emanuil Ivanov as part of its annual Discovery Series. On March 2, he will make his debut at The Wolfsonian - FIU, with a program featuring works by Mendelssohn, Alkan, Bach-Busoni and Shostakovich. Ivanov’s musicality is noted for its clarity, dynamic range, and attention to the individual voices within the music, earning him praise from critics around the world.
Born in 1998 in Pazardzhik, Bulgaria, Ivanov began his musical journey at a young age, influenced by symphonic music and the works of composers like Gustav Mahler. He studied piano with Galina Daskalova before continuing his education under renowned pianist Atanas Kurtev. Currently a student at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Ivanov has received guidance from major figures in classical music, including Dmitri Bashkirov, Sir Stephen Hough and Peter Donohoe.
Ivanov gained international recognition after winning first prize at the 2019 Ferruccio Busoni Piano Competition. His subsequent performances in venues such as Teatro alla Scala in Milan and Herculessaal in Munich have further established him as a rising star in the classical music world. He has toured internationally and has recorded for the Naxos label, with his performances featured on prominent radio stations, including BBC Radio 3 and Japan’s NHK Radio. In 2024, Ivanov is set to perform Busoni’s piano concerto, showcasing his dedication to bringing rarely performed works to the stage.
