Enlightenment Festival: Romantic at St. Philips Episcopal
Feb 28, 2025
Starting: 7:30 PM
Join Seraphic Fire on Friday, February 28 for an evening of Romantic choral music at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral as part of their annual Enlightenment Festival. Under the direction of conductor James K. Bass, the performance will feature a chorus, vocal soloists and piano, with scholarly insights from Andrew H. Weaver of The Catholic University of America. The program offers a thoughtful blend of works by both well-known and underrecognized composers of the Romantic era, including pieces by Clara and Robert Schumann, Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Franz Schubert and Johannes Brahms. Highlights include Clara Schumann’s Gondoliera, Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel’s Schilflied and Brahms’ O Schöne Nacht.
