Fanmi Pap Janm Pedi, A Celebration of Haitian Heritage
May 24, 2025
From: 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM
Art and storytelling combine to honor Haitian cultural heritage in an interactive program designed for young children and their caregivers. PAMM Art Storytime: Fanmi Pap Janm Pedi, A Celebration of Haitian Heritage will take place on Saturday, May 24 at Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), presented as part of the museum's Haitian Heritage Month programming.
The event is inspired by artist Widline Cadet's artwork Sé Sou Ou Mwen Mété Espwa m #1 (2021) and focuses on building early literacy skills through engagement with visual art. Pre-kindergarten participants and their families will experience a brief museum tour guided by their own observations and imagination, encouraging active looking and creative thinking.
Following the tour, attendees will enjoy folklore storytelling featuring an original story by a local author/illustrator. The session concludes with hands-on activities using design and drawing tools that explore themes of culture, family and photography.
This educational program offers families an opportunity to engage with Haitian cultural expressions while developing foundational literacy skills in a museum environment.
