Explore the complex interplay between coherence and fragmentation in contemporary lives with the group exhibition Fragmented Worlds / Coherent Lives, currently on display at The ARC in Opa-Locka. The exhibition, curated by Tumelo Mosaka, delves into how current global challenges, such as surging immigration driven by economic inequality, environmental disasters and socio-political conflicts, are contrary to living a coherent life. Drawing on concepts informed by fragmentation, mobility and adaptation, the artists use memory, history and lived experiences to depict how identities are becoming fragmented and in some cases, contradictory.
Working between concrete and subconscious ideas, Fragmented Worlds / Coherent Lives presents coherent narratives that challenge the conventional perceptions of Africa in the contemporary landscape.
