Jun 14, 2025
From: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Engage with Black history through interactive experiences, guided tours and creative expression at a family-oriented commemoration. Free Family Fun Day: Celebrating Juneteenth takes place on Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at HistoryMiami Museum as part of their monthly second Saturday programming series.
This special edition honors Juneteenth—the commemoration of slavery's abolition in the United States—through various educational activities designed for visitors of all ages. Participants can gain deeper understanding of local Black history through a guided highlights tour of the museum's permanent exhibition, Tropical Dreams: A People's History of South Florida, which contextualizes the African American experience within the region's development.
The event features a video presentation showcasing narratives from Black Miami residents, offering firsthand accounts from community storytellers. Hands-on activities include creating Kente-inspired jewelry and contributing to a collaborative community mural, providing opportunities for artistic engagement with cultural themes.
This programming creates space for both celebration and reflection on the historical significance of Juneteenth while exploring its connection to Miami's diverse cultural landscape.
