Opening on December 6, 2024, Global Borderless Caribbean XVI: Haiti in the Heartland brings the vibrant artistry of Haiti to Miami’s Little Haiti Cultural Complex. This outdoor exhibition, presented by the Haitian Cultural Arts Alliance, showcases a selection from the renowned Haitian art collection at the Waterloo Center for the Arts in Iowa. The collection, encompassing over 2,000 works, is celebrated as one of the largest in the United States and emphasizes Haiti’s rich cultural heritage.
Presented for the first time in this format, the exhibit highlights the creative depth and significance of Haitian art, curated by Chawne Paige, Executive Director of the Waterloo Center for the Arts, Dr. Petrouchka LL. Moïse; Assistant Professor, Grinnell College, Project Co-Lead of the Haitian Art Digital Crossroad (HADC); and Fayola Nicaisse, Chairwoman for the Haitian Cultural Arts Alliance with contributions from the Haitian Cultural Arts Alliance, Little Haiti Cultural Complex, Grinnell College and the Haitian Art Digital Crossroads (HADC) project. Influential figures Edouard Duval-Carrié, Carl Juste and Marie Vickles lend additional support to this collaborative effort. Running through April 19, 2025, this exhibition invites the public to explore the artistic legacy of Haiti through the eyes of artists whose works resonate far beyond the Caribbean.
