This event has passed.
Discover student research examining democratic development and human rights challenges across diverse nations. Global Perspectives on Democracy takes place on Tuesday, April 15 in Room 258 at the SIPA II Building on FIU's Modesto A. Maidique Campus.
Hosted by the Václav Havel Program for Human Rights & Democracy, this event features presentations from students in the Politics of Transition and Human Rights course. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore a poster session highlighting semester-long research projects that investigate democratic transitions in countries spanning multiple continents.
The research encompasses nations with varied political histories and challenges, including Argentina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cuba, China, Iran, Myanmar, South Africa, South Korea, Syria and Venezuela. Each project examines the obstacles, achievements and future outlook for democratic development within these countries.
Visitors are encouraged to engage directly with the student researchers, ask questions and gain insights into the complex factors shaping democracy and human rights around the world. This interactive format provides an accessible way to understand comparative political development across different cultural and historical contexts.
The event is organized by Daniel Pedreira, Ph.D., Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Politics & International Relations at Florida International University.
