Hampton Art Lovers Presents One Night Stand!
Through Apr 27, 2025
weekly on Sunday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
From: Noon to 6:00 PM
Explore the rich musical heritage of Miami's historic Overtown neighborhood through the lens of contemporary photography. One Night Stand! presented by Hampton Art Lovers, runs from February 13 through April 27 at the Historic Ward Rooming House in Downtown Miami, with viewing hours Thursday through Sunday.
This exhibition features photographer Greg Clark's intimate portraits of local musicians, captured against the backdrop of Overtown's transformed landscape. The show's title pays homage to Sam Cooke's legendary 1963 live recording at the Harlem Square Club, which has become recognized as one of the greatest live albums ever made.
Clark's work documents the contemporary musical scene while preserving the legacy of Overtown's vibrant past, when venues like the Rockland, Palace and Cotton Club hosted both local talent and nationally renowned artists. The exhibition includes an oral history component, collecting stories from musicians of the 1960s and 70s in partnership with FIU Wolfsonian Public Humanities Lab.
A special Black History Month reception will be held on Thursday, February 20 from 6-9 p.m. The exhibition is sponsored by OneUnited Bank and S.E. Overtown / Park West CRA.
