Explore the controversial legacy of William Randolph Hearst in HEARST: Lampooning the King of Yellow Journalism, on view at The Wolfsonian through March 2, 2025. This installation delves into how Hearst’s sensationalist approach to news, marked by scandal, sex and violence, helped him build a media empire while drawing sharp criticism from political and social commentators. Featuring satirical cartoons and culminating in the portrayal of Hearst’s life in Citizen Kane, the exhibit examines how caricaturists and filmmakers responded to his influence. Curated by FIU history students Gisselle Mestre Delgado and Thiago Abad-Sanchez, under the guidance of Dr. Francis Xavier Luca, this installation offers a unique look at the backlash that shaped Hearst’s legacy.
