Explore the enduring connections of Cuban identity across generations and continents through personal stories of adaptation, belonging and cultural heritage. Hijos de la Diaspora, screening on Friday, February 21 at the Koubek Center, follows the experiences of 21 young Cubans who have grown up in nine different countries.
Directed by Miami-based filmmaker Lunes Oña, the documentary examines how Cuban culture persists and evolves among recent generations living abroad. The film features individuals who have been raised in diverse locations including Scotland, Ecuador, Canada, Spain and Angola, many of whom have never visited Cuba or retain only distant memories of the island.
Through intimate interviews, the documentary explores the complexities of navigating dual cultural identities - balancing Cuban home life with the influences of their adopted countries. The narratives represent various waves and circumstances of Cuban emigration, offering insights into the shared experiences of cultural preservation and adaptation.
The screening is free to attend with RSVP, and free parking is available at the venue.
