Navigate the complex terrain of family dynamics in 1990s Miami, where a young boy grasps for connection among the fractured pieces of his Cuban-American household. How to Break in a Glove takes the stage at the Adrienne Arsht Center for select dates from February 5-22, 2026, presented by Zoetic Stage and Adrienne Arsht Center as part of their 2025-26 Theater Up Close season. This poignant new work by Chris Anthony Ferrer explores how an 11-year-old boy's relationships with his iron-willed grandfather, weary grandmother, struggling father and conflicted mother are tested during a night of crisis.
The play draws a thoughtful parallel between the care needed to break in a baseball glove and the patience required to nurture family bonds—both demanding time, attention and the willingness to work through discomfort. As buried tensions surface, the characters must decide whether to stretch and soften their connections or risk losing their grip on one another entirely.
Tickets for How to Break in a Glove go on public sale September 19, joining four other compelling new-to-Miami productions in the Theater Up Close season.
