Jazz Encounters featuring Rodolfo Zuniga

WDNA’s Jazz Gallery will host an evening of live performance and improvisation with acclaimed drummer and composer Rodolfo Zuniga as part of its ongoing Jazz Encounters series. Taking place on Friday, May 9, the program showcases Zuniga’s dynamic range as a bandleader, sideman and educator in an intimate setting dedicated to serious jazz listeners.

Originally from San José, Costa Rica, Zuniga has performed with a long list of jazz luminaries, including Randy Brecker, Melissa Aldana, Jonathan Kreisberg and Slide Hampton. In addition to leading his own ensemble, Surfaces, Zuniga is also known for his work with multi-Grammy Award winner Julio Iglesias, with whom he has toured internationally. His compositions merge jazz traditions with global influences, and his performances reflect a commitment to musical exploration and collaboration.

The event includes a post-concert open jam session, inviting local musicians to share the stage. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and seating is limited. Tickets are $40 for general admission, $30 for WDNA members (with valid ID) and free for students with ID. Proceeds support WDNA 88.9 FM and its mission to preserve and promote jazz in Miami.
