Jazz in the Jungle: The Smoogies And Seafoam Walls

An evening of genre-defying music unfolds at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, where the lush surroundings set the stage for a unique live concert experience. Jazz in the Jungle: The Smoogies and Seafoam Walls, presented Miami Jazz Booking, takes place Thursday, May 1, featuring performances by two South Florida-based ensembles along with a DJ set by Merboots. The Smoogies, a quartet known for their eclectic "People Music" style, return to Miami fresh from a European debut at Ronnie Scott’s. With members who have collaborated with artists ranging from Lauryn Hill to Snarky Puppy, the group brings a polished yet adventurous sound grounded in jazz, R&B and soul influences.

Sharing the bill is Seafoam Walls, a Miami-based four-piece that weaves Afro-Caribbean rhythms, shoegaze textures and jazz harmonies into a distinctive blend. Led by singer and guitarist Jayan Bertrand, the band’s genre-spanning approach has earned them recognition for pushing boundaries in the indie and experimental music scenes.

Together, these artists promise an evening of rich, cross-genre sound in a setting that complements the organic and evolving nature of their music.
