Fri-Mon: 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM | Thu: 11:00 AM - 9:00 PM
Witness the art and resilience of José Parlá in Homecoming, his first solo museum exhibition in Miami, on view at Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) from November 14 through July 6. This deeply personal exhibition explores Parlá’s Cuban heritage, diasporic identity and dynamic mark-making process through a two-part presentation.
The first phase invites visitors to observe Parlá creating a site-specific mural live in the gallery, showcasing his gestural, movement-driven approach inspired by music, calligraphy, and urban architecture. The second phase transforms the gallery into a re-creation of Parlá’s studio, featuring paint-covered tables, archival memorabilia and a Cuban-inspired record collection, offering an intimate look at his artistic world.
Rooted in themes of resilience and self-discovery, the exhibition also highlights new works created after Parlá’s recovery from a life-threatening illness in 2021. Homecoming is a testament to the artist’s journey, connecting personal history, cultural identity, and creative expression in a compelling and immersive experience.
