Let's Talk: Asking for a Friend
Apr 05, 2025
From: 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Explore themes of intimacy, vulnerability and personal reflection through contemporary art at a special closing event at The CAMP Gallery. On Saturday, April 5, the gallery will mark the conclusion of its March exhibitions, Asking for a Friend and Between Stillness & Growth, with an engaging Artist Talk at 3 p.m. featuring exhibiting artist Silvana Soriano. Admission is free.
Asking for a Friend brings together works by Heidi Hankaniemi, Joan Wheeler, Lydia Viscardi and Silvana Soriano, who each examine emotional experiences such as love, pride, fear and autonomy through diverse artistic approaches. Inspired by the intimate format of advice columns, the exhibition encourages thoughtful exploration of self-discovery and emotional connection. Soriano’s contributions draw particularly from the writings of Brazilian author Clarice Lispector, whose focus on women's inner lives resonates in Soriano's intricate collage and drypoint pieces, blending literary narrative with visual storytelling.
Additionally, visitors will experience Between Stillness & Growth, a solo exhibition by Jan Brandt that thoughtfully navigates themes of bloom and decay. Through tactile materials like glitter and puffy paint, Brandt’s works bridge the space between abstraction and representation, capturing a dynamic balance of stillness and movement.
Artist Silvana Soriano, originally from Rio de Janeiro and currently based in Miami, has showcased her work internationally across Brazil, Europe and the United States. Soriano holds degrees from Bennett University and Brazil's esteemed School of Visual Arts and brings extensive experience as both an exhibiting artist and art educator.
