MOCA Makers: Painting Banners with Avi Young
This event has passed.
Artists of all levels can explore creative expression through textiles in a hands-on workshop guided by a noted Miami artist. MOCA Makers: Painting Banners with Avi Young will be held on Saturday, April 12, at the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami. Participants will create personalized banners that explore themes of communal ties, family and memory using fabric dye, markers, paint and grommets.
Avi Young, a queer Afro-Latinx artist whose work often features tender portrayals of marginalized communities, brings their cultural heritage and storytelling approach to this workshop. Young's artistic background includes training at the Design and Architecture Senior High and the Kansas City Art Institute, with a focus on ceramics and material exploration. Since 2021, they have been an associate artist at the Bakehouse Art Complex. Young's current installation Bearing Bonds, is on display at MOCA's Art on the Plaza through May 31.
