Ocean StorySLAM
Jun 05, 2025
From: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
An evening of live storytelling puts the ocean at the heart of the narrative as part of the 2025 World Ocean Celebration Miami event lineup. Set in the auditorium of the Miami Beach Regional Library, this gathering brings together a diverse group of voices to share personal stories shaped by their experiences with the sea.
Ocean StorySLAM, taking place Thursday, June 5, invites the public to listen in as nine local storytellers recount meaningful, humorous and thought-provoking moments connected to the ocean. From encounters with marine wildlife to reflections on coastal life, each story offers a unique lens on how the ocean continues to influence lives and communities.
The evening kicks off at 6:00 p.m. with the StorySLAM, followed by a winner announcement at 7:45 p.m. The 2025 lineup of storytellers includes Maria Beotegui-Zapata, Elizabeth Bonnell, Scot DiStefano, Anne Heetderks, Matt Landau, Mo Morrow, Franky Otero and Lauren Reilly. Gaby Fernandez Sanchez will emcee the event and the program is curated by Gary Bremen—also known as The Traveling Ranger.
Presented in partnership with the Miami-Dade Public Library System and The Traveling Ranger, this event blends personal narrative with environmental awareness, celebrating the many ways people connect with the ocean through story.
