Philip Smith’s distinct visual language takes center stage in a career-spanning survey at the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami. Philip Smith: Magnetic Fields opens to the public on April 30, marking the artist’s solo institutional debut.
Featuring more than 50 works created over five decades, the exhibition explores Smith’s evolving pictographic style across six gallery spaces. Curated by art historian Robin Clark, the thematic presentation highlights the artist’s multifaceted approach to image-making, offering insight into his layered compositions and symbolic narratives. Magnetic Fields will be on view through October 5.
Smith, a Miami-based artist, was part of the influential Pictures exhibition that helped define the Pictures Generation movement. His work, which blends painting, photography and symbolic imagery, is included in major museum collections, including the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Dallas Museum of Art.
