Pioneer Winter Collective: Apollo
Apr 25, 2025 - Apr 26, 2025
From: 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Experience a thought-provoking dance-theater performance that explores intergenerational queer dynamics, memory and legacy, as part of the Out (Loud) in the Tropics 2025 series. Apollo is a work created by Pioneer Winter Collective (PWC), a queer, experimental dance company known for pushing boundaries in both movement and thought. Taking place on April 25 and 26, 2025 at the Miami Theater Center, the performance examines the complexities of mentorship and the evolving queer experience, blending personal history, cultural memory and mythology.
Inspired by the ancient Greek myth of Apollo, as well as Balanchine’s Apollo ballet, the performance features a younger queer dancer’s interaction with three queer elders, each representing different aspects of the Apollo myth. Their encounter highlights the tensions between generations striving to understand each other.
Founded in 2016, Pioneer Winter Collective creates performances that are both inclusive and experimental, challenging the conventions of dance and performance art. PWC’s work embodies the complexities of identity and community, encouraging the idea that every body has the capacity for virtuosity and deserves to be seen.
