weekly on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
From: 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Locust Projects presents The Elephant Never Forgets, a multimedia installation by Daniel Arturo Almeida and Adrian Edgard Rivera, on display from September 7 to November 2. Opening with a reception on September 7, this immersive exhibit transforms the main gallery into an uncanny backstage TV studio lot. Drawing inspiration from iconic Latin American media, including the 1970s sitcom El Chavo del Ocho, the installation explores themes of memory, transnational telecommunications and the socio-political intricacies of Latin American media history.
Almeida and Rivera's work delves into issues such as piracy, censorship and the role of media in shaping cultural narratives. Visitors are invited to navigate a TV production studio set filled with screens, costumes and props, encountering a space that reflects on the complex interplay between media, memory and identity.
Daniel Arturo Almeida, a Miami-based artist of Venezuelan descent, is known for his exploration of identity and memory through his installations and exhibitions. He holds an M.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts, NY, and has participated in notable exhibitions and curatorial projects in Miami and New York.
Adrián Edgard Rivera, originally from Austin, Texas, and raised in Mexico, is a Brooklyn-based contemporary artist whose work focuses on themes of identity, culture and memory. Rivera has exhibited widely in New York and has been recognized with residencies and awards, contributing to the art community through lectures and talks.
The Elephant Never Forgets is a Knight Digital Commission, supported in part by Funding Arts Network.
The opening reception for The Elephant Never Forgets will take place on September 7 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The exhibit closes with a Makers Market Closing Event on November 2.
