The Frost Symphony Orchestra concludes its season with The Firebird: Frost Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the UM Gusman Concert Hall. Led by esteemed conductor Gerard Schwarz, this evening promises an unforgettable mix of classical and contemporary music as part of the UM Frost School of Music’s Signature Series.
The program opens with Jennifer Higdon’s blue cathedral, a reflective orchestral work celebrated for its rich textures and uplifting themes. Following this is Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64, one of the most beloved concertos in the violin repertoire, known for its expressive lyricism and technical brilliance. The evening will also showcase the world premiere of the Frost School of Music’s fourth centennial commission, composed by GRAMMY and Emmy-winning composer Carlos Rafael Rivera. Concluding the night is Igor Stravinsky’s iconic The Firebird Suite, a powerful work that combines Russian folk themes with dazzling orchestration.
