Jan 18, 2025
From: 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Uncover the stories behind one of Florida’s defining architectural styles at The Hidden Histories of Mediterranean Revival Architecture on Saturday, January 18, at The Wolfsonian–FIU. Presented as part of Art Deco Weekend in partnership with the Miami Design Preservation League, this talk explores the origins and significance of the Mediterranean Revival style, which shaped southeastern Florida’s urban landscape before Art Deco emerged.
Historian Emily Neumeier will guide attendees through The Wolfsonian’s archives to reveal how this style, introduced in the 1920s, offered northerners a vision of exotic geographies through vibrant tilework, shaded courtyards and distinctive design. The discussion will highlight the architects and developers who popularized the style while examining the often-overlooked intersections of race, class and colonialism in Miami’s early urban development.
This event provides a deeper understanding of the architectural legacy that helped define the “magic city” of Miami. Free with registration.
