The Media and Holocaust Memory
This event has passed.
Compelling stories of survival and remembrance take center stage in this dialogue about preserving Holocaust history through media. Presented by The Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs, The Media and Holocaust Memory: Doing Good on the Global Stage brings together two distinguished voices on Monday, January 27 at FIU Biscayne Bay Campus.
The conversation features Leslie Gelrubin Benitah, U.S. producer of The Last Ones, who will discuss her groundbreaking multimedia project documenting the testimonies of Holocaust survivors. A third-generation survivor herself, Benitah has produced over 160 episodes of short documentaries in French and English, reaching millions of viewers worldwide. Her work spans multiple formats including web series, books, podcasts and films, resulting in a lasting digital archive of survivor stories.
Joining her is Professor Neil Reisner, an associate professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and veteran journalist known for his expertise in media coverage of diversity and religious issues. This timely discussion coincides with the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz death camp, offering insights into how modern media can effectively preserve and share these crucial historical narratives for future generations.
