We Met at Book Club: Relics of the Heart
May 17, 2025
From: Noon to 4:00 PM
Literature lovers and history enthusiasts alike can enjoy a meaningful afternoon exploring family narratives, storytelling and local history at Vizcaya. We Met at Book Club: Relics of the Heart takes place Saturday, May 17, at the Vizcaya Village Garage, presented by Vizcaya Museum & Gardens in collaboration with We Met in Miami and local author Oscar Fuentes (The Biscayne Poet).
Guests will begin the afternoon with an author talk by Fuentes, who will discuss his family memoir, Relics of the Heart: Stories of My Family. Participants will then gather in small, guided book club discussions, engaging with excerpts from the book—no prior reading required. A guided walking tour of historic Vizcaya Village offers deeper insight into the area's rich past and the lives of those who once inhabited the estate.
Visitors are encouraged to bring a family photo to contribute to a community collage that blends personal memories with archival imagery from Vizcaya. To encourage meaningful connections, participants will have the option to wear color-coded wristbands provided by We Met in Miami, indicating if they’re interested in friendship, romance or connecting with the LGBTQIA community.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase at Vizcaya Village Café throughout the event.
Attendance is free, but registration and confirmation are required due to limited space. Registration opens Wednesday, April 14, at noon, and confirmations will be sent on May 5.
