You Are Here: Poetry in Parks with Ada Limón
Jan 31, 2025
From: 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Literary arts and environmental preservation unite in a unique installation celebrating the connection between poetry and public spaces. You Are Here: Poetry in Parks, featuring U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limón, takes place at the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center in Everglades National Park on Friday, January 31, from 3 to 4 PM.
The event marks the unveiling of a permanent installation featuring June Jordan's poem "Ecology" inscribed on a picnic bench within the park. Following Limón's poetry reading, a panel discussion explores the relationship between artistic expression and natural conservation, featuring insights from Aerie artist Arsimmer McCoy and Everglades National Park representative Allyson Gantt.
This collaboration between the National Park Service and O, Miami demonstrates how public art can enhance visitors' engagement with natural spaces. The afternoon concludes with an opportunity to have books signed by Limón.
