E.W.F. Stirrup House

The Ebenezer Woodberry Franklin Stirrup House is a superior example of wood frame vernacular architecture, and is constructed of Dade County pine. Stirrup migrated from Harbour Island, Bahamas in 1888 and apprenticed under his uncle, who was a carpenter. This provided him with the skills to construct his home, as well as the 100+ homes he would build to rent to other settlers. He would ultimately become a millionaire through his successful real estate and business ventures. Stirrup built this home with his wife, Charlotte Jane, at night after working a full day for their employers. Mr. Stirrup lived in the house until his death in 1957.
