Miami City Ballet, founded in 1985 by Edward Villela and Toby Lerner Ansin, is one of the world’s leading ballet companies, celebrated for its interpretation of George Balanchine’s choreography. Under the artistic direction of Lourdes Lopez since 2013, the company’s repertoire spans over 100 ballets, including Balanchine’s masterworks and contemporary pieces by choreographers like Justin Peck, Liam Scarlett, and Alexei Ratmansky. With annual performances across South Florida and appearances at renowned festivals like Jacob’s Pillow and Vail, MCB reaches over 132,000 audience members each year. Miami City Ballet School, founded in 1993, is a premier training institution attracting over 1,300 students annually.
