Miami E-Prix
Apr 11, 2025 - Apr 12, 2025
Starting: 2:05 PM
Imagine the speed, thrills and excitement of a Formula 1 race without the loud roar of the engines. That’s a little bit of what the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is bringing to Homestead April 11-12, when the world’s fastest electric cars will race around Homestead-Miami Speedway in the Miami E-Prix. It will be Formula E’s second time in Homestead after first racing here in 2015, its inaugural season. This year’s event promises to be even more exhilarating than the first, as new technology and best-in-class racing teams are bringing a buzz to the sport.
What is Formula E Grand Prix racing?
The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is a racing circuit, much like the original gas-powered Formula 1, with open-wheel, single-seat cars. The big difference is that the cars all run on electricity with high-powered batteries attached to their engines. The 2024-25 race calendar consists of 16 races, starting in São Paolo, Brazil, this past December and finishing in London, England, on July 27. The series includes stops in Mexico City, Mexico, Jakarta, Indonesia, Monaco and other global racing hubs. Miami will be its only stop in the United States.
How fast do Formula E cars go?
The speed difference between Formula E and Formula 1 is diminishing with each new generation of cars. The current top speed for Formula E cars is about 200 mph for the Gen 3 cars, though the on-track record is about 171 mph. That compares to just over 230 mph for an F1 car. Much like electric passenger cars, Formula E cars excel at acceleration. The new GEN3 Evo cars can go from 0-60 mph in 1.82 seconds. That’s about 30% faster than an F1 car.
How long is a Formula E race?
Unlike most auto races, which have a specific distance, Formula E is timed, like a basketball or soccer game. Races last 45 minutes, about the length of time a car’s batteries can power the vehicles without a recharge. Whoever completes the most laps when the clock runs out is the winner.
Miami E-Prix Schedule
On Friday, April 11, race fans can head to the track at 4 p.m. to watch the first free practice session. On Saturday, April 12, fans can catch the second free practice session at 7:30 a.m. Qualifying begins at 9:40 a.m., and the race begins at 2:05 pm.
Things to Do at the Miami E-Prix
Like most big sporting events, the Miami E-Prix will also have its own fan festival at Homestead-Miami Speedway. On Friday and Saturday, there’ll be live musical performances as well as a designated kids area with educational exhibits about electric cars and sustainability. You can test your driving skills in special racing simulators inside the gaming zone and sample a variety of food at the food court.
Tickets to the Miami E-Prix
Tickets are now on-sale and offer four different experiences.
General admission tickets get you into the speedway with no reserved seating, meaning you can watch the action from any empty seat. Prices are $39 for adults 25 and older; $29 for young adults 16-24; and $15 for children 15 and younger. Members of the military get in for $33.15. All prices are without fees.
Those seeking an elevated experience can opt for the Speedway Terrace, which offers grandstand seating right over the track. These tickets include food and drink vouchers fans can use at a private indoor food court.
If you’re going for the party and the race, consider tickets in the Electric Lounge. This indoor area will have live DJs, drinks and catered food, with the race showing on big-screen TVs all afternoon. Electric Lounge ticket holders will also get VIP drop-offs and a special walk through pit lane. The Electric Lounge has a sprawling outdoor space with perfect views of the track. Electric Lounge tickets are $630.15.
The top-tier tickets are in the Emotion Club, where guests will watch the race from inside the paddock at an exclusive trackside terrace. They’ll also get to meet the drivers and take a walk through pit lane. Food, drinks and VIP drop off are also included. Tickets are $3,278.67.
Sustainability at Formula E
Formula E’s overriding purpose is encouraging the adaptation of electric transportation and reducing carbon in our atmosphere. It has reduced its carbon emissions by 27% since its fifth season and is a signatory of the United Nations’ Climate Neutral Now initiative. The circuit has also invested in renewable energy in host cities and now meets the criteria for carbon neutrality. Formula E recently announced it will reduce its carbon freight emissions by 25% next season.
How To Watch the Miami E-Prix
