An Evening with Carl Hiaasen
May 13, 2025
Starting: 7:00 PM
Literary enthusiasts can enjoy an evening with one of Florida's most celebrated authors as he presents his latest work. Carl Hiaasen will discuss Fever Beach at the Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ on Tuesday, May 13.
This special event, hosted by Books & Books and the Books & Books Literary Foundation, showcases Hiaasen's newest novel that continues his tradition of satirizing Florida's unique political and cultural landscape. Fever Beach follows in the path of his previous work Squeeze Me, delivering Hiaasen's trademark humor while examining America's polarized culture.
The novel introduces readers to a colorful cast of characters, including Dale Figgo, a bumbling right-wing extremist; Viva Morales, a clever woman working for a supposedly philanthropic organization; and Twilly Spree, a wealthy environmentalist with anger management issues. These characters become entangled in a mystery involving dark money and even darker motives.
Attendees should note that tickets are required for this event. Each ticket admits one person and includes a copy of Fever Beach. Those wishing to bring a guest must purchase an additional guest fee. Books will be distributed upon entry to the venue.
Hiaasen, a Florida native, has authored fourteen previous novels and seven children's books. His novel Bad Monkey was recently adapted into a series on Apple TV+ starring Vince Vaughn.
