Experience the remarkable journey of a musical visionary whose melodies have transcended cultural barriers and political boundaries for generations. The world premiere of Chirino screens at the historic Olympia Theater on Friday, April 4, as part of the 42nd annual Miami Film Festival lineup.
This compelling documentary, directed by accomplished filmmaker Jorge Soliño, offers an intimate portrait of Cuban music legend Willy Chirino. The film traces his path from humble beginnings in Consolación del Sur, Pinar del Río, through the emotional trauma of family separation during Operation Pedro Pan, to his emergence as an internationally acclaimed artist with an enduring musical legacy.
Through interviews with family members, contemporaries and devoted fans, the documentary reveals not only Chirino's artistic achievements but also his unwavering ethical and moral commitments that have defined his career. The screening will be enhanced by the presence of director Jorge A. Soliño, who will be available to share insights into the creation of this first-ever documentary about the living legend.
