Choose Your Character: Clothing Swap & Poetry Pop-Up

Sustainable fashion meets literary expression at a marketplace event in one of Miami's most iconic settings. Choose Your Character: Clothing Swap & Poetry Pop-Up takes place Sunday, April 13 at the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens Farmer's Market as part of the O, Miami Poetry Festival running throughout April.

This community-centered event combines environmental consciousness with creative writing through a simple premise: attendees bring a summer-inspired clothing item—shorts, dresses, skirts or tank tops—to exchange for another piece, promoting sustainable approaches to fashion while refreshing their wardrobes.

After selecting their new garment, participants can engage in a guided poetry workshop focused on writing personal poems inspired by their newly acquired item. This imaginative exercise encourages writers to explore how clothing shapes identity and self-expression.

The event is facilitated by Amalia Maria, a writer and educator whose work centers on the intersection of fashion, creativity and personal empowerment. Her approach emphasizes how sustainable fashion choices and poetry can serve as complementary tools for body reclamation and self-expression.
