Delve into the world of light and perception at MOCA North Miami's upcoming exhibition, Collection Focus: Light Play, curated by Adeze Wilford.
Opening April 10 and running through October 6, Light Play explores how artists from MOCA's permanent collection utilize light in their work. This group show features established figures like Dennis Oppenheim alongside newer acquisitions such as Jo Nigoghossian. Artists Petah Coyne, John Espinosa, R.M. Fischer, Nancy Haynes, Julian La Verdiere, Joan Robey, and Sarah Seager join them in this exploration. Drawing inspiration from past MOCA exhibitions like Artificial Light, the exhibit delves into the many ways artists manipulate light, emphasizing its physical and symbolic properties within contemporary art.
Light Play breaks away from traditional white-cube galleries, opting for a unique, low-lit, open-floor plan that transforms the museum's entrance space. This allows for unexpected juxtapositions, highlighting connections between artworks like Gut Birthdays by Dennis Oppenheim and Song for ( ) by Sarah Seager, both making a return appearance after years in storage.
