At the peak of the summer season, venues across Miami Beach are preparing to welcome a fusion of culture and community with the 16th annual Miami Takeover from July 26-29, 2024. This highly anticipated event bridges Washington, DC and Miami Beach in a weekend rich in Go-Go music, spoken word and art.
Since its inception in 2007, Miami Takeover has drawn notable personalities, including Katt Williams, Red Grant, Lil Duval, Doug E Fresh, MC Lyte and Dave Chappelle, cementing its reputation as a premier summer event celebrating diversity and creativity.
Get ready for a lineup that blends dancing, networking opportunities and diverse cultural expressions, giving attendees a chance to experience the true essence of both Washington, DC and Miami Beach.
Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Future: Thursday, July 25
Miami Takeover kicks off the week with a commitment to community service with Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Future dental screenings. Scheduled for Thursday, July 25 at Flamingo Park, this initiative, in partnership with the Miami Beach Police Athletic League and Colgate, aims to provide essential dental care to 150 children.
Trap Poetry Miami & All White Party: Friday, July 26
Miami Takeover officially launches on Friday, July 26 at 8 p.m. with the Trap Poetry Miami & All White Party at the Muhammad Ali Boxing Center at Washington Avenue and 5th Street. This opening night combines the rhythmic allure of Go-Go music from DC with Miami's vibrant poetry scene, promising an exciting evening of live music and spoken word.
The Art of Go-Go Culture Fest: Saturday, July 27
The cultural centerpiece of Miami Takeover, The Art of Go-Go Culture Fest, takes the stage at the Miami Beach Bandshell on Saturday, July 27, from 5 to 11 p.m. Curated by Demont "Peekaso" Pinder, this festival showcases interactive art installations alongside the dynamic sounds of Go-Go music. Talented visual and multimedia artists from the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) will provide a backdrop of DC-inspired pieces for the night’s live performances.
Originating from Washington, DC in the 1970s, Go-Go is renowned for its distinctive blend of funk, rhythm and percussion. It has become a cultural cornerstone of DC and is a vibrant expression of the city’s musical identity. With its Afro-Caribbean influences, the music style is right at home in Miami.
Featured performers include soulful songstress Janae Music, Sirius Company, Black Passion and headliners Backyard Band, with music by DJ Quicksilva. The event promises an immersive journey into the heart of Go-Go culture, celebrating its legacy and influence.
Glow Pool Party: Sunday, July 28
Experience the ultimate thrill of Miami Beach nightlife at the Glow Pool Party on Sunday, July 28 at 10 p.m., hosted by DJ QuickSilva at Hyde Beach at the SLS South Beach. Dive into an electrifying evening of music and dancing as this iconic venue transforms into a neon paradise filled with UV lights and bright decorations.
Community Service Beach Sweep: Monday, July 29
After a weekend of music, dancing and art, join Miami Takeover for a volunteer beach clean-up, starting behind the Marseilles Hotel at 1741 Collins Avenue. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to join in cleaning approximately half a mile of the beach on Monday, July 29. The annual volunteer event aims to express gratitude to the hosting city, Miami Beach, and close out a week of art and culture with community building.
Tickets For the 16th Annual Miami Takeover
For those who want the full experience, a Weekend Party Pass is available for purchase for $199 to enjoy all that Miami Takeover has to offer. Individual tickets are available for the Trap Poetry Miami & All White Party, the Art of Go-Go Culture Fest and the Glow Pool Party for anyone 21 and older. Prices range from $40 to $150 depending on the event, with early bird tickets available for those who want to save.
