Broaden your musical horizons with a series of contemporary classical and avant garde performances at the 2025 edition of the New Music Miami ISCM Festival. Going strong now for 28 years as a platform for Miami’s contemporary classical music scene, the festival brings together internationally recognized composers, ensembles and rising artists. The XXVIII New Music Miami ISCM Festival runs from January 22 through April 16 on select Wednesdays at The Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU, offering free concerts at 7:30 p.m. preceded by pre-concert discussions at 7 p.m.
2025 festival lineup:
January 22: Laura Schwendinger (Guest Composer) & Amernet String Quartet
This opening concert features First Berlin Prize-winning composer Laura Schwendinger alongside FIU’s Artist-in-Residence Ensemble, the Amernet String Quartet. Arrive early for a conversation that sheds light on the inspirations behind these avant-garde works.
January 29: Byrne Kozar Duo
Soprano Corrine Byrne and trumpeter Andy Kozar present Baroque pieces for natural trumpet and soprano, as well as contemporary works commissioned for their modern counterparts.
February 5: FIU Alumni Composers Concert (NODUS Ensemble)
The NODUS Ensemble performs innovative works by former FIU music students, showcasing a range of styles and voices that highlight the diverse artistry nurtured at the Wertheim School of Music.
February 19: Chen-Hui Jen & Jacob David Sudol
Pianist Chen-Hui Jen and composer-electronic musician Jacob David Sudol combine acoustic performance with computer-generated soundscapes, offering a thought-provoking exploration of classical and experimental worlds.
March 5: ÓNIX Ensemble
Hear Mexico’s ÓNIX Ensemble bring modern Latin American music to life. Recognized for artistic excellence, these musicians present cutting-edge compositions that reflect their commitment to cultural diversity and innovation.
March 12: Chun-Hao Ku, Saxophone
Saxophonist Chun-Hao Ku unites Eastern and Western traditions in a program that highlights the instrument’s versatility, providing a cross-cultural perspective on contemporary chamber music.
March 26: Music from North & South America (NODUS Ensemble)
NODUS Ensemble performs works by composers from across the Americas, including Cuban composers and Cintas Foundation winners. Expect a rich blend of influences and sounds from both continents.
April 9: Jeonghyeon Joo (Haegeum) & Ethan Marks (Trumpet)
This unique pairing features the traditional Korean haegeum alongside the trumpet, blending cultural histories with modern experimental composition to create a fresh sonic landscape.
April 16: Nina Young (Guest Composer) & FIU NODUS Ensemble
Conclude the festival with guest composer Nina Young’s latest works performed by the NODUS Ensemble. This final concert underscores the festival’s mission to foster new music and celebrate contemporary voices.
