The Vernissage-Visage + Portrait Stories: A Celebration of the Human Existence Through Portraiture at the Doral Cultural Arts Center on Tuesday, December 3, offers an evening of impactful portraiture, inviting viewers to explore the universal language of the human face. Presented by the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau in partnership with Art of Black Miami and produced by Twenty6North Productions, the event showcases the work of five distinct artists—Oscar Ukonu, Egypt Hagan, Anthony Burks Sr., SONA and Stefan Smith. Through a focus on “visage,” this exhibition celebrates portraiture as a bridge connecting individuals across diverse backgrounds, emphasizing emotional expression as a shared human experience.
Each artist brings a unique perspective. Nigeria-based Oscar Ukonu’s work examines African identity, capturing the interplay of stability and transformation in a digitally connected world. Egypt Hagan, based in Arizona, uses bold colors and luminous gold tones to tell untold stories, infusing each portrait with vibrant energy. South Florida native Anthony Burks Sr. employs mixed media to celebrate diversity, portraying humanity through a blend of abstract and realistic forms. Miami artist SONA (Sophia Wong) reflects on resilience and personal growth through muted tones inspired by her multicultural background and a deep interest in indigenous practices. Stefan Smith, a South Florida muralist, explores black identity through a fusion of public art, portraiture and technology, examining social and economic issues through his evolving artistic approach.
Guests will experience an immersive atmosphere with a live DJ and will have the opportunity to purchase artwork from a curated catalog.
