Wendy Wischer: Open Water
Through Apr 05, 2025
weekly on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
From: 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM
An immersive journey beneath the ocean's surface reveals the delicate relationship between humanity and Earth's waters through multimedia storytelling and sensory experiences. Open Water, a new installation by artist Wendy Wischer, will be on display at Locust Projects from February 13 through April 5, with an opening reception on Thursday, February 13, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Through a blend of projected video, sound and non-linear narratives, the installation explores the duality of oceanic spaces—both the vast external seas and the metaphorical waters that flow within human experience. Wischer's work bridges the gap between scientific data and emotional connection, translating environmental information into meaningful experiences that highlight the urgent reality of our changing marine ecosystems.
The Connecticut-based artist, whose practice spans sculpture, video, sound and public art, brings her multidisciplinary approach to this exhibition. By interweaving technology with natural elements, Wischer creates an environment where visitors can contemplate the visible and invisible boundaries of our relationship with nature. Her work, which has been recognized through numerous grants including the Pollock-Krasner Grant, aims to foster deeper connections between people and their environment while addressing critical climate issues through emotional engagement. Wischer's installations can be found in notable public collections including the Perez Art Museum and the Boca Museum of Art.
